What this means for you
The IICRC writes the technical rulebook for this industry, and it is accredited by the American National Standards Institute to do so. Two of its standards govern most of what we do:
- ANSI/IICRC S500 Standard for Professional Water Damage Restoration (Fifth Edition, 2021), covering psychrometry and drying technology, building and material science, the microbiology of water damage, equipment and instruments, and project documentation.
- ANSI/IICRC S520 Standard for Professional Mold Remediation (Fourth Edition, 2024), covering inspection and preliminary determination, containment, structural and HVAC remediation, contents remediation, and post-remediation verification.
Firm certification is not a badge you simply buy. It requires at least one active IICRC Certified Technician on staff, current general liability insurance, and a signed Code of Ethics renewed every year. One clause of that code matters more than the rest to you as a customer: an IICRC Certified Technician must supervise or be present on every job site. The code also requires a written complaint policy with a response inside five business days.
In practice this is what lets us document a job the way an insurance adjuster expects to see it: moisture readings, drying logs, and a defensible scope written against a published national standard rather than someone's opinion.

What this means for you
Mold work splits into two jobs that are deliberately kept separate. Assessment is finding it: inspecting, sampling, reading the lab results, mapping the moisture that caused it, and writing the protocol that says what has to happen. Remediation is doing the work: containment, negative air pressure, removal, cleaning and sanitisation. NORMI trains and certifies both sides separately, in its own words, "to avoid the potential conflict of interest."
That separation is the part worth understanding. A company that inspects your property and also profits from the remediation it recommends has an obvious incentive problem. Holding both certifications means we know where that line sits and can tell you plainly which side of it we are on for your job.
Each certification required 24 hours of training and a two-hour proctored examination, and both are renewed with continuing education every year. The syllabus is built on the IICRC S500 and S520 standards, EPA guidance and the New York State mold guidelines.
NORMI is a private certifying and training body, not a government agency, and Colorado does not require any of this. We hold it because the training is the most practical mold instruction available in the US.

Florida Mold-Related Services examinations

"The mold assessment examination covers the physical sampling and detailed evaluation of data obtained from a building history and inspection to formulate an initial hypothesis about the origin, identity, location, and extent of amplification of mold growth greater than 10 square feet."
"The mold remediator examination covers the removal, cleaning, sanitizing, demolition, or other treatment, including preventive activities, of mold or mold-contaminated matter greater than 10 square feet."
What this means for you
Only four states in the country license mold work at state level: Florida, Texas, Louisiana and New York. Colorado is not one of them. There is no Colorado licence for mold assessment or mold remediation, and no state exam a Colorado contractor is required to pass. Anyone here can advertise mold work tomorrow.
Florida runs the strictest of those four regimes, with separate proctored examinations for Mold Assessor (MRSA) and Mold Remediator (MRSR). We sat and passed both. Nothing obliged us to, and most Colorado restoration contractors have never attempted them.
To be precise about what this is and is not: these are examinations passed, which form one part of a Florida licence application. We are not claiming a Florida licence, and we do not work in Florida. We are telling you we chose to be measured against the toughest mold standard any US state sets.

What this means for you
Two separate things get confused here, so here is the distinction. Accreditation is something a business applies and pays for, and it requires meeting BBB's standards, holding the trade licensing the work needs, and being free of government action against you. The rating is not bought. It is scored out of 100 on complaint history, time in business, transparency, licensing and advertising conduct, and it moves whether you pay dues or not. Our A sits in the 94 to 96.99 band.
Accreditation also commits us to answer any complaint routed through BBB. In BBB's own words, a rating "is not a guarantee of a business's reliability or performance", and customer reviews are not counted in the letter grade at all.

What this means for you
Registration in SAM.gov is what makes a business eligible to be awarded federal contracts. Getting and keeping it active means our legal entity, ownership and business details are on file with the US government and are renewed annually.
For a homeowner this changes nothing about your job. It matters if you are a property manager, a facilities team, a housing authority or anyone who has to place work with a contractor who is already registered and eligible. That box is ticked.

Frequently asked questions about our credentials
Does Colorado license mold remediation?
No. Colorado has no state licence or certification for mold assessment or mold remediation, and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment states plainly that it "does not regulate mold." A 2025 bill that would have created a state mold registration did not pass. Only four states license mold work: Florida, Texas, Louisiana and New York. This means anyone in Colorado can advertise mold services without passing any exam, which is exactly why the certifications on this page are worth checking.
What does IICRC certified actually mean?
The IICRC writes the industry's technical standards and is accredited by the American National Standards Institute to do so. Its S500 standard governs water damage restoration and S520 governs mold remediation. An IICRC Certified Firm employs at least one certified technician, carries general liability insurance, and signs a Code of Ethics requiring a certified technician to supervise or be present on every job site. It matters on a claim because carriers expect drying logs, moisture readings and containment documented the way those standards require.
Is Prime Restore Solutions licensed and insured in Colorado?
We carry liability insurance and workers' compensation, and we hold the licences required for the work we perform in the Denver metro jurisdictions we serve. Colorado does not issue a single statewide restoration contractor licence, so requirements are set city by city. We can provide current certificates of insurance on request before any work begins.
Do you work with my insurance company?
Yes. We work directly with adjusters from all major carriers, document the job to carrier standards, and bill the claim.
